Oh My Darlin

I stumbled across this video by Keith Loutit a few days ago and I keep coming back to it. He's recently created a series of videos using the tilt-shift photography method, which makes everything feel like a miniature model version of real life.

He uses it brilliantly to eye popping effect:

It's Like Letting Go

"It would not be true to say that I am no longer lonely...yet like everyone else I am acutely conscious sometimes of my own isolation even in the midst of people and I often give up hope of ever being able to really communicate with them.

It is not only the sort of isolation that every writer or artist must experience in the creative mood if he's to create anything at all; it's like a black cloud sweeping down on me unexpectedly cutting me off from others, a sort of death." -Christy Brown, My Left Foot
---------

The journey out of creative despair is a long and hard one. Over the last year I have spiraled down and clawed back up with minor dips derailing the progress, like the jaggedness of the steadily rising mountain chain.

After working on a local short film with a group of serious, dedicated and passionate people, the wrap photo is at the top of this post, I feel finally and after crushing bouts of hopelessness that I have reached a point of equilibrium.

It's like letting go. Like opening your hands after they have been clenched tight around a ticket that you are sure was a winner and finding that the whole time you were squeezing air. That there is no raffle stub you can cash in for success, no formula to follow for artistic satisfaction, no sure fire route to acceptance and love.

The ambition is still there, surely, and the fire to communicate. To reveal to the world a vision of itself through my eyes that others have only vaguely felt but never experienced as a coherent whole.

And there is still a sense of urgency, of needing to do it now, because I may not have the opportunity tomorrow, but there is sanguinity in acknowledging that you can't force people to understand what you are trying to say before they are ready to hear it.

There is only your best effort, and the persistence of it, and the studying of your craft and your pursuit of excellence, and if these things are maintained for long enough, all the rest will be revealed.

"Luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity" -Seneca
